Kim Prasst Wedding Photogapher Bio Portrait About Kim

I am a 1998 graduate of Alfred University, School of Art & Design. Beginning college as a drawing and painting major, I enjoyed painting portraits and landscapes, but unlike the free and fluid style of my fellow classmates, my work was overly controlled and a bit uptight. Instead of being expressive, I seemed to spend hours and hours trying to put on canvas exactly what I was seeing, and was usually unsatisfied with the outcome. During my sophomore year, my painting instructor recommended a photography class as an elective. After printing my first roll, I knew I had found the medium I would work with for the rest of my life. With my camera, I could paint a million pictures without obsessing over the imperfection of a brushstroke; I could document a feeling, an emotion, a moment in time exactly the way I saw it. Finally, I had found the tool to create a portrait that would truly show what I was seeing in my subject. I finally understood why I was always disappointed in my paintings; I see beauty in the way things are—without manipulation. I could never succeed in creating this documentation with a paintbrush. So, for the most part, I put my paintbrush down. My camera is an extension of my eye. It enables me to celebrate life the way I see it, and share that celebration with others.

Letter to My Client

I take a different approach to each wedding that I shoot, because after all, every wedding is different; no two couples are the same. I work in a photojournalistic style, with the exception of your formal shots, which will also have a less “posed” feel to them. Capturing the true emotion of the day is my utmost goal. I am not so much a wedding photographer, but a documentary photographer who shoots weddings. I feel honored to be a part of such a special day, so I am as unobtrusive as possible and make it my sole ambition to provide you with a stunning collection of images that will tell the story of your day in an honest and artistic way.

I guarantee that I provide individual attention to clients, not just thinking of them as a day I am booked to shoot. I take time to get to know your personalities and understand the rhythm of the day. I also put a lot of work in to the images after they have been taken. As an artist I prefer to work with clients that will give me the artistic freedom to develop and enhance each image to its full potential. However, I take direction very well and if you choose to hire me at an hourly rate, and you desire un-manipulated images, I am happy to comply and give you the same attention to detail, without the post-production efforts.

Choosing your wedding photographer is a very important decision. It should be someone you are comfortable with, better yet, someone you “click” with. The honesty, and therefore success of the images relies on this. My biggest compliment I have received from my clients is that I seemed like a friend, someone that seemed to know them and understand exactly what they were looking for.

For something truly unique, images that are honest and beautiful, choose me to shoot your wedding. You will be happy you did for years to come.

I hope to meet with you soon!
Very truly yours,
Kimberlee B Prasst
